I get Better Homes & Gardens Magazine. Normally, I'm opposed to subscribing to any magazine because I find it to be a waste of money and they just clutter up everything (yes, Kasey, and the environment thing, too.). But, I've cancelled this darned thing 5 times and they keep sending it to me for free! Dunno how to get them to stop sending it.
ANYWAY.
So I'm sitting on the toilet, flipping through the latest issue (Oh, please - act like you don't read your mags on the toilet. Whatever.) when I come across an article from Leah Remini on getting organized for back to school. She gives us some hints and tips and tells us how organized she is for back-to-school. She even calls herself "organization mom".
Can we talk about some of these tips?
Tip #1: She lays out her daughter's clothes the night before. This is a good tip but here's a better one - quit caring what your kid wears and leave it up to them. They look ridiculous but as long as all the bits and parts are covered, then I don't even care. HA!
How about tip #2: Go on a Birthday Blitz. She buys for everyone in her daughter's class at one time. How is this applicable to me? Her disposable income is probably higher than my needed income to survive! And who buys gifts for everyone in the class??? How is this even remotely realistic?!
Reading this article was a bit like reading one called "How to dress like the stars, for less!" And then they tell you to send $300 on ONE friggin outfit! That's not less - ok, technically it's less but really it's not. If my outfit costs more than my grocery budget for one week then it's not practical. Who has $300 to spend on one outfit?? Or an article about how to lose 15 lbs in one month and they tell you to work out 3 times a day. Who the hell has that kind of time???
Oh, right, people that get paid too much. My bad.

Preach on, sista! Couldn't agree with you more. Even when I can afford a $300 outfit there is no way in hell I can ever justify it!

oh - you mean you don't carefully orchestrate every article of clothing your children wear?! I know I have mine pressed and hanging every Sunday so all they have to do is pull it from their closet each day and put it on.
Of course that happens after we all blissfully awake from our 8 solid hours of sleep, happily eat a warm and full breakfast together, at the table, and discuss what we have planned for the day. Once in their pre determined outfits (that they don't protest about or pee on) we grab our pre packed and well organized backpacks and the nutritional well rounded lunches and skip out to the car, stopping for a moment to admire the perfectly manicured lawn and weed free flower garden.
After I drop off the little cherubs at school its off to the gym, the salon, and the mall for some new thrifty duds (I mean I won't spend more than $500 on an outfit, I'm trying to be frugal!!).
So I don't know what you're talking about I think she's right on.
Ok, I am with on the laying the clothes out the night before because that does save time (not that I actually do that, because I am also with you on that one, but I am just sayin'.) But seriously, buying gifts for everyone in the class?! That's crazy!
Haha, Liz is hilarious! :p
You know, I love Leah Remini, but doesn't she have just one child? One?! I can say this because I also just have one...I don't think I'm an organization guru. He's busy, yes, but I love that and it's just not that terribly difficult to arrange my schedule around his.
Frankly, I want to hear from someone who has three or more children all in school, all in extracurricular activities (some overlapping). Let them tell me how they keep it together and I'll listen. Those are the ones I take my hat off to.
LOL, right. I need the knock off of the knock off version of the outfit.
And... gifts for everyone in the class? That is nonsense. My own kids are lucky to get gifts! ;)
Love this!
Here's a secret for you...I will sometimes sit on the toilet with the seat down and my pants on just so I can read a magazine. It's the only place where I can say "leave me alone I'm pooping" and they'll actually listen!
Yup! She can bite me!
I think "realistic" is more towards "unrealistic" on the spectrum when it comes to a celebrity! I would totally go on a dollar-store birthday CARD blitz, or birthday party supply blitz. But presents? Um...no.
They were talking about this on The Talk this spring too. When she said the part about the presents for the whole class, I thought wow it must be nice.. I think a lot of these things in magazines are so over done lately. I try to check out the outfits and exercising as well but I can't afford anything that they are selling. Exercising even when the kids are all in school is the last thing on my agenda too.

I am with you!
