Remember when buying makeup was fun? You would experiment with all sorts of different colors - for your eye shadow, blush, eyeliner, lipstick and even mascara? Now buying make-up is more of a chore. We no longer look for things that shout "FUN! BRILLIANT! BRIGHT!" instead we zero in on makeup that promises to do miraculous things like shrink our pores and minimize our fine lines and wrinkles. The phrase "Anti-Aging" is enough to make us sigh hopefully.
Also gone are the days of buying any old makeup. Remember when we used to grab the .88 eyeliner from Wet n Wild and we could supply all our makeup needs for $10 or less? Not any more, my friends. Now you can hardly get ONE item on your make-up must have list for $10. And we don't really want to be Wet n Wild any more. We want to be Smart, Beautiful and Timeless.
The cost of make-up is ridiculous, but if it can do all that it claims then I suppose we shouldn't complain. Trying to budget it in to an already tight budget takes some trickery and finesse. If you don't buy fresh fruit or vegetables for a whole month, then you can afford new makeup. Mostly.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to email my husband and explain that I went $60 over budget on groceries this week because I hadn't bought new makeup in nearly 2 years. Yeah, I decided to go ahead and keep the fresh fruit & veggies, too. After all - I'm worth it.

You are so right. It is kinda ridiculous that they charge $6.49 for a soft eye-liner pencil.

I gave up on make-up years ago. I may pick it up again, but yeah, it's horrendous on the budget.
I so echo these words!!!! I can still find a few good deals at the dollar general store - but never the grocery.
It is ridiculous! I only buy makeup when it is on sale and with a coupon.

I agree! The cost of make up is ridiculous!! They say beauty is pain! But the truth is more pain in the pocketbook than anything! :)
I guard my compact with my life since the dang thing cost $25! I don't wear much makeup, so I guess it could be worse!
My husband honestly prefers me withou makeup, so I have lived without buying all but the occasional lipstick or new mascara for about 10 years.
Yes, make-up is so expensive and yes, you are totally worth it!!

It's crazy expensive! Nail polish is outrageous too. Let's don't even get into haircuts and coloring. It costs a fortune just to do the bare minimum and keep from looking like an old hag.

I am sooooo glad I don't use any of that stuff! I recently bought my first tube of mascara in...maybe 10 years. And I didn't give a lick what the name brand was...it might have been "wet-n-wild". I used to wear make up years ago but gave it up while in the Army (too hard to do while you are deployed to Bosnia!) and decided it was a habit I was glad to kick!
This is why I add one each time:O) Slowly, steathly.......which is not a word :O) lol!
what cracks me up is how all of the news media emphasizes how we should replace certain items every three months or whatever. WHAT?! I'll risj the Staph infection thanks.
