Seriously Sacred

Have you ever bought flowers and just handed them to some random person? Have you ever paid for the order of the person behind you in line at a drive thru? Have you ever put money into parking meters that were about to expire?

Have you ever donated blood? Have you ever donated food? Have you ever donated clothing or toys? Have you ever donated an ear? Have you ever donated time?

Have you ever been sad? Lonely? Depressed? Have you ever been homeless? Jobless? In need? Have you ever been at your wit's end because you just didn't know how you were going to make it through another day?

Last year our family started a new tradition. It's time for this tradition to take place again this year.

Not 12 Days of Receiving. It's not about what we can get but what we can give. How can we help? What small way can we make someone elses life easier? Better? Different? If only for a moment. It doesn't have to be big and grand - sometimes smaller says more.

We're working on our list of 12 Acts of Kindness to enact this December. You can read about our journey last year, here.

Want to join us this year?

This is our family's verse: Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, When it is in your power to do it. -Proverbs 3:27

This is our prayer:

You know what's Seriously Sacred?

HOPE

And you have the power to give it to someone else.

So long as most of them don't require large sums of money, I would LOVE to follow you. And I have a suggestion but it may not work for those living in warmer places...scrape the windows of the car next to you when it needs it! I'll do that one anyhow :)

I love it! Unfortunately our packout starts in the middle of your 12 days. I think I still may try it. I think I need to pray about this...

I like this idea. I've actually been looking for an idea like this to help my kids understand the concept of giving...

Great post, it really got me thinking. I hoping we can budget to sponsor a child through Compassion International soon.

Heidi,

We did this last year and the blessings that we received were countless along with blessing others. It was amazing to give. I am so glad you are doing it again...we are planning to do this every year.

Heidi - I love this! I've been wanting to find a way to incorporate the 12 days of Christmas into our holiday routine, but there's no way we can afford (or store) all our Christmas presents plus our 12 days of Christmas gifts. I LOVE this idea - and what a great way to focus on giving!

The problem with our society is that there are too many crazies out there and many people are afraid of even friendly casual contact with strangers. A person trying to help another might be a ruse to steal or take advantage of you. I find people look at me funny whenever id try to do anthing more helpful than pick up something for someone. Any suggestions for an old white dude?

Thanks for the reminder. I will be doing a 12 days of giving this year. I have sooo much to be thankful for and I have to admit that a part of me gets a little rush when I practice RAK.

Not sure what I'll do but I know for one I always put some $$ in those durn red baskets with the annoying bell ringers. No matter what I always toss my change in there every single time I walk by. That's just one of my faves :)

I just read your last years post and this looks so exciting! I will be talking to my family (well mostly my better half) about this!

No, no, no, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, heck yeah, yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes.

And yes. Or actually, maybe, depends on what you have in mind. :)

LOVE the song, btw.
