All I Ask of You

At the risk of ticking quite a few of you off, I need to address an issue. Look, it's important, ok? Otherwise I just would leave it alone and let it be. But I just can't this time..I can't keep letting this go by unsaid for any longer.

I need to talk to some of you ladies about your Twilight/Edward obsession. No..no..wait...just hang on a minute and don't get all defensive before I even BEGIN. Crimeny. Take a chill pill. Wait until I'm done and THEN be defensive, mmkay? *wink*

So...this Twilight/Edward stuff has just gone too far. I mean, it really has - don't you think? And I hafta say that I just don't get it. I don't see the attraction.

Oh good GRIEF. Emily, Lauren..and the rest of you..go get a paper towel and QUIT licking my blog. Disgusting. Keep your spit IN your mouth, thankyouverymuch.

Now, that CHILD up there does absolutely nothing for me. Not a darned thing. Admittedly, I have not read the book nor seen the movie. Little secret? I don't plan to. Not for any moral objections or anything (morals? do I have those?) but just because it's not my cup of tea. I do have many friends that have and they've filled me in on the basics.

Is it his dysfunctional/abusive/stalker relationship with Bella? "I want a love like that!" Yikes! Really? Because if THAT is what you're after then I think you should really look into becomming Phantom of the Opera fans. That there is some scary dysfunctional obsessive 'love' for ya. Plus? Oh yeah...the Phantom is disfigured so he is infinitely more dangerous and myserious.

New Phantom, Old Phantom..the story is still the same - the level of creepy stalker love is still there. Just look at him...If you're going for dark and mysterious, THIS is your man, I'm telling you.

Is it the vampire angle? That whole "I vant to suck your blood" thing turn you on? Ok, well, let me present to you two OTHER vampire movies that you can explore as alternatives...

Lost Boys, anyone? Keifer Sutherland?

That one is pretty dark and violent, I know. If it is the feminine aspect of vampires that you're into then you should look into Interview with the Vampire. AND it was a book before it was a movie - part of a series, even - so you can read the book and then watch the movie. Anne Rice did it all first, people. Twilight is just a knock-off *sigh*. Besides, who can argue with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise (before he want all cuckoo)?

Me? I'm going to have to put all my eggs in the Phantom basket.

Because, uh, on top of being smoking hot and dysfuntionally unheathly frightening Phantom can sing, too. Can Edward sing? No. I didn't think so. Amateur.

Poor, unloved, misunderstood Phantom. *weep*

So, to recap....

Yes...

That's All I Ask of You.

LMAO! And for the record, I didn't actually lick the blog...just a little drool on the keyboard. There needs to be a 12 step program for Vampire addicts...not that I would join or anything.

and actually Edward can sing...and he does so on the soundtrack. Score one for Edward! ;)

Um, I know that I am WAY in the minority here, but I have NOT read the books and I don't see the big deal about this dude...I mean, is he some kind of patron saint in these books...maybe I am in fact missing out on something but I have just had the hardest time wrapping my brain around this! I know that all these other ladies are drooling enough for me too!!! LOL

read the books...got the attraction by the last one, though not the obsession. understood it further when i saw him in the movie. something about his voice. but neither do i get the phantom thing. i've seen the musical...totally freaked me out. i guess i should see the movie. i'll get back to you on that one. hope your friendships can be repaired after this post. :)

Gosh, I don't even know who the guy is.

Apparently I'm one of only a few...

I am with ya, don't see the attraction!

oh heidi, heidi, heidi...you speak of things that you know not. But I won't hold it against you! That would be like faulting the blind for not being able to see.

Thanks for the shout out...I did not lick the screen, but I did zone out for a minute before I finished reading.

And BTW, I totally would have stayed with Phantom at the end of that movie too. What was she thinking?!

Oh and yeah, Edward can sing and he writes music. Yo!

Think of me fondly...(oh I crack myself up!)

Yeah, me neither,,,what the heck you gals talking about???

Love it!

Meah, I don't get it either. Not interested in the book, the movie or that guy either. I saw Phanton 3 times over the years. I own the sound track and love it. :o) I did like Interview with a Vampire too. Tom Cruise was so much better before he went all L.Ron Hubbard on our a$$e$!

This had me cracking up! I don't get it so far, but I must say that I haven't read any of these books or seen the movie either. When the book is (eventually)back at my library I will. I read all of Rice's Vampire Chronicles and I about had a meltdown when I heard Tom Cruise was going to be playing Lestat. (He barely did an OK job.)
This Edward Vampire actor is shooting another movie right now and the cast and crew are about to revolt because he has stopped showering and he reeks. How do'ya like him now ladies!?

TracyR said...

no books or movie here either. I don't get the hype??

LOL - I don't know a thing about Twilight - cracking up at the Keifer picture and now can't get Phantom songs out of my mind. Thanks!

ROTFL --- (and I don't use that one often!)

This was hysterically brilliant! And for the record, I don't see the appeal either!! (Only you were way nicer and funnier than I could have been about it ... *evil grin* )

I did see the movie because EVERYONE was raving madly about this Edward guy. He is mysterious...and cute...but I sat there with my friend going "when is this going to be the best movie I have ever seen?" Maybe I am too old or not cool anymore, but it seemed high schoolish & well...weird.
I do love Phantom of the Opera though...I saw it in Toronto. Wonderful show.

Oh dear God in Heaven....

{serious drool going on here}

Ahhhh...the Phantom.

{sigh} My first true love.....

You need to stop posting him on your blog. I can't get any work done here. ;)

First...I have both seen the movie and read the books. Although my teenagers were a bit over the top with them, I would merely say they were good books. The movie did not even come close to doing the book justice. (My obsessed teens did not like the movie or Edward)
Second...I am totally in agreement with your assessment of Rob Pattinson/Edward. He is not who I see playing Edward. And I can't see the attraction there either. Even though I read the books after the movie came out so I knew what he would look like, it's still not the picture I see in my head when I think of Edward. Rob P. did a much better job in Harry Potter 4.
(I will say that Kristen Stewart did a very good job in her role as Bella.)

i'm just not willing to take the whole twilight plunge. the phenomenon is kinda weirding me out. i mean...youngsters being all about it seems fine...but grown ass women drooling over vampire boys. seems kinda odd...but, maybe that's because i haven't watched it. maybe i would drool, too.

As I look to my right, I see a copy of the Twilight Movie. It has sat there, in that same spot, collecting dust for over 3 weeks. My daughter is terribly disappointed that I'm not at all excited to watch it. Maybe one of these days, when I'm trying to avoid scrubbing toilets, I will watch it. LOL

OH Heidi...Heidi.. I truly laughed when I read your post...it was REALLY good.. I will have to say since I have read all 4 books AND watched the movie with a bunch of teenagers...that I LOVED the books but the movie left alot to be desired. But really what movie is ever as good as the books? There was no way to portray what was in the books on screen. As a matter of fact when I sat there watching the movie..it was almost comical. I wish I had never watched it. I was like you before I read them, what's the big hype for? CRAZY...but they were really not what I expected and was pleasantly suprised at how good they were. I still love ya & love your blog... your blog is always entertaining:)

I was fortunate enough to see Phantom 3 times!! I loved it every time I went. The songs are fun to play on the piano too!

LOL! soooo funny. i have not read a book or seen the movie. and do not care.

Never have and never will have a desire to see any of the above flicks other than "Interview with the Vampire". I have to say I thought it was a real good movie and a perfect fit for Tom Cruise. However, I probably never will see it again. I remember just having a dark cold feeling surrounding me (in the room) after watching it. I am sure it is just me, but I have refrained from reading the series or watching that movie any more. I am a little bummed because I suspect the series of books are pretty awesome!

Simply_Pam said...

Saw the movie.. read the books. I am not over the top with it, but I enjoy a break from reality now and then, and that is all this is. It's not real, but it is enjoyable reading. Just a differant slant on a love story. We all want happy ever after endings. That seems to be what we are waiting for this writer to give us. I say give me a movie that doesn't deal with reality. I live reality every day. I will go see New Moon and the follow up movies.

You are HILARIOUS!

Are you going to kick me if I admit I've never seen Phantom?

I can see the attraction, yet more often than not he looks like his hair hasn't been washed in a month.

I just can't get all hot over someone just a few years older than my son. Creepy.

Besides, what self respecting vampire freaking sparkles!

Ha - you are funny! You should see the movie once and then see what you think. Also, I loved the Interview with a Vampire books and the movie too. Maybe I am a vampire junkie...

Good post!

XOXO

You are a funny lady! I don't know what it is with Twilight, but he is a hottie! As for Phantom, never seen it. Sorry ladies...I am not a big fan of broadway on dvd.

Love your blog. Love you. Have to say - I was obsessed with the Twilight books and Edward (the character, not the actor). I have only found a couple of people who have actually read the book and did not get the attraction. I LOVED the crazy wild romance, the obsession, the quick read, the escapism, and although I love my husband of 15 years dearly, I long for a man that wants me the way Edward wants Bella (OK, not the blood-sucking part, but I have to say the danger is exciting).
