Ya know?
Right.
So I'm just wondering - how do you read blogs? Through a feed reader? Through your dashboard? In a certain order? What? Do you comment on every post? Do you read every day? Not on the weekends?
This is Howie Do It, here....
Blogger Dashboard. I go through EACH blog and read back as far as the last time I read (which is last WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY right now, oy). Then, after I finish those I go back through my comments and visit anyone that commented and wasn't in my dashboard area. I comment on posts as much as I can - as time allows and depending on what I'm doing while I'm reading.
Right now? I just finished a couple of shifts. Now I'm cleaning up the house - 15 minutes to power clean, 5 minutes to sit here and catch up back up for 15 more minutes to clean.
I read every day that I'm able to. There isn't a day that my computer isn't ON so it's fairly easy to read along. I just got way stinkin' behind this week since I was out Friday, Saturday AND Sunday. So, if I haven't commented on your blog in awhile - FEAR NOT! I'm makin the rounds today. *nods*
I showed you mine, now show me yours.
HA!

ditto...i like your style. that's how i do it, too!
I think I basically have the same routine as you. I check out my dashboard first and catch up on my faves - then I go to my gmail and try to visit or respond to as many people as I can without losing quality.
I know everyone likes comments, but I really don't like to comment too much unless I really have something to say. I definitely don't get to say hello to as many people as I would like on a daily basis, but I do read everyone I follow daily.
I also try not to blog too much while the boys are awake and under my care (ie...Daddy is watching them right now so I can work/blog) - which with work, severely limits my time to comment.
So that's how I do it...or at least try to.
Dude, you're brilliant. I also read thru Dashboard, but since I have zero self control I often don't get to the cleaning part!
I check in on my people everyday, from my dashboard. I comment when I have something to say. I'll snoop in on other people from my people's blogs. Some of my people I consider closer than others, even though they are states and states away. I'm getting sick of mega follower blogs, where they get hundreds of comments on one post, and it gets to be not so personal anymore. So if you get to be a mega follower blog and turn in to a big headed queen I may have to lose you. ;o)
Gee, maybe I should have left that last part for tomorrow's profane rant.
Sounds pretty much like me. I use Google Reader to do a a little browsing of some favorites (i.e. YOU!) I try to comment on those who are in my Google Reader by actually visiting their site, especially if they are regulars to my blog as well. There have been some blogs who I have commented on often and I don't get any "love" back. Sad. What do you think? Should they make the cut?
I also TRY MY HARDEST to go and visit those who are either followers of my blog or have commented. I try to leave meaningful comments versus just saying "that's great". You know what I mean...you're good at leaving great comments that are thoughtful and unique!
I think you said once that you would love to be me (with my organization obsession and such), but seriously? I want to be YOU with your wit, sarcasm, and funny personality. I'm trying... :)
Most of the blogs I read I have on my side bar. There are a few that I follow, but don't necessarily read everyday. But I go through the list on both and read to where I left off.
not been so faithful to anyone lately but usually when i am at work i look at google reader but when i am home it's dashboard. i try to read all followers/followees everyday, don't get all usually. any comments then i read theirs and try to comment back if there is something i can say (if you can't say something nice...) so that is how i roll, peace out lol~
I pretty much do the same thing you do. I do try to respond to people's comments if they have it enabled. And I try to comment on all blogs I follow...don't want to be a blog-stalker, ya know!
I'm not a blogger, just a follower. So, in my favorites I have a folder called "Blogs" with my faves in there. I go down the list and read, usually daily.
Hey, Heidi Ashworth wrote a similar question last week. I use both Bloglines and the blogger dashboard thingey and my sidebars. I actually like having a combination.
I read blogs every day. I try to comment on all the blogs I read at least once per week (I think I usually comment far more often though). It is unrealistic when you read 100 blogs that you will comment on every single post.
I've read questions on whether people should keep reading blogs where the person didn't comment back. I think it comes down to whether you enjoy reading their blog or not. I am a long time reader of certain "bigger name" blogs and at certain times their lives are too crazy to comment around to everyone and then for months I'll get a comment every day. So if you enjoy reading, keep reading, and if not, then don't. It's the same with some friendships I have IRL.
I check on the blogs I follow with dashboard. I try to read up at least three times a week. I don't get to comment on every post but I try to always leave encouragement especially when there is a specific prayer request.
I am not very good at keeping up with reading blogs. Some weeks I do well and comment all over the place and other weeks I am lucky if I get a chance to sit down and read blogs for 1/2 hour. I usually just use my sidebar and mess with it frequently to get it to update. This weekend was super busy and I barely got a chance to read anybody's blog so I am trying to do some catch up this evening.
The truth? When I am all caught up, I keep up with the blogs I read through the reading list on my dashboard. I read each post and comment on them if I want to. Now that I am following more blogs I find it harder to do this. Lately I tend to go through this list and hit the ones that picque my interest. I also try to view the blogs that I have not been to in a while (2-3 days) and view the posts that I have missed. I always view the blogs of people who comment on my posts the very same day.
Great topic, Heidi. I'm interested in how everyone else does this, too. :)
I go to dashboard and look for the one above the last one I read/commented. I am new to the blogging world and I have some questions myself.
i'm way too random. i read all the ones in my sidebar and the ones i follow. but because it's loads of them i may not always comment. i try to stay off the computer more lately...it's starting to interfere with my kiddos. not good. so know my friend i read. i just may not comment. :0) doesn't it still make you all warm and fuzzy knowing i am still here...maybe not so much. see otherwise i'll do it later at night..when i'm tired. and then the weirdos come out...don't know which is better.
google reader is the ONLY way to go!!! thanks for sending kim over for the give away!!! tell 'self' hi.
I am finding myself reading blogs everyday as I try to make a post everyday to keep up with the journaling idea of my blog. I usually don't read blogs until Trey goes to bed and then blogging can be my mommy time. I just have a dashboard of my favorite reads. I try to read and comment on all of them everyday. Then I go and read the comments that are left on my blog and then check out their blogs if I don't have them on the list. I see if I have any new followers, then check out their blog and finally I participate in the Makin' Friends Monday and the Wordless Wednesday so I try to visit every site listed on the Mr. Linky on those two blogs at least every other week. I tell you this blogging world is just one big circle.
I do enjoy reading your blog daily. Hope you have a blessed day!
I read blogs everyday...does that mean I have no life??? I go through the ones on my sidebar and then people who comment on my blog. I'm a huge commenter (is that a word) because I like comments myself so I usually try and say hello to others.
I pretty much read the same way and I always try to comment. I hate when folks stop by my BLOG and don't comment!
I use Firefox as my browser and I have a BLOG folder set up on my toolbar that has all the blogs I read listed inside. Each blogs is bookmarked as a RSS feed so I can see when someone has posted a new post without even signing into Blogger.
As far as commenting, well I it is just when the mood hits. Or I simply want to show some love. ;) I can't always comment and I surely can not comment on every blog, every day.
That is so funny, you detailed my way to the tee...
Yep, me too. I use by dashboard, start reading where I left off, get interrupted, go back, leave a few comments, eventually write my own post for the day.
I use Bloglines. Then I organize all my 100+ blogs I currently follow into folders - i.e. blogs of people I know in real life, blogs of people I've become great blogging buddies, blogs from "pro" bloggers, etc. I think you get the picure. That helps me skim through my folders when I only have a little bit of time to read. I can skip over the ones I have no real connection to and just post about giveaways and focus on all the ones I really do want to keep up on.
I always comment back to people who have commented on me, and if there are people who comment often, then I add them to my Bloglines and start following them as well.
Some days I just have to mark all as "Read" because I can't keep up, but sure hope everyone knows I love 'em :)
I use Bloglines. I read so many blogs. Around 165, I think. Yes, I have issues. lol Anyway, I never knew my dashboard was good for much other than clicking "new post." I'll have to check it out!
I'm a little late on commenting. I read yesterday {obviously, I linked to you} but I didn't get a chance to comment.
I read emails first. Most of the time I just click the link to the blog as I'm reading and comment right then. I ALWAYS respond to every email. That's why I get a little behind sometimes.
Then I jump over to my Dashboard and start where I left off. I am on the computer quite a bit throughout the day, but mostly just in quick spurts as I'm doing other things. Then during nap time, I usually plop down and catch up/blog/watch Ellen. :)
Google Reader, several times a day (early morning, mid day, late night.) I comment when it's interesting. I ought to make an effort to comment on those who comment on my blog, but . . . i'm working on it!
